An acceptable storyline set in Provence What I found very frustrating not knowing the region or Aix is whether the places and streets actual exist or just made up. So why the blazes does the text include various bits of random French , such as bonjour or merci, etc, basic 4th grade French words that everyone understands? Persoonlijk zal ik een vervolg niet oppakken, echter denk ik wel dat er genoeg mensen zijn die hiervan zullen smullen, vooral als je een beetje bekend bent met de Franse taal. The doctor is found dead in his office with his head bashed in with an unusual blunt instrument, a 700 year-old religious statue. In the space of three pages, we are informed four times (and several more times later on) that a tertiary character's parents divorced a couple of years previously.

Pakuję się, gdy rozmawiamy"), bohaterkę, która "sugerowała, by jej rodzice poszukali terapii" (seek therapy) i wiele, wiele innych. The head of Aix University's Theology is expected to announce both the winner of the prestigious Dumas fellowship, and, with his retirement, the appointment of his successor--who will acquire his very luxurious apartment. I checked this book out from my library (the only one of the series they had) on the basis of the TV mini-series which I had found bitterly disappointing and hoped that the book might be more fulfilling as I know Aix and the French academic milieu and expected a fond warmth to overwhelm me. The main character is supposed to be a cultured upper class Frenchman, but all his references are English. Longworth’s gentle procedural succeeds on several levels, whether it’s for academic and literary allusions, police work, or armchair travel.are mysteries for foodies, with the plot providing a table upon which the enchanting meals and accompanying wines are served.

Murder in the Rue Dumas” is more on the cozy end of the genre, but what a delightful place it holds. Longworth evokes the pleasures of France in delicious detail--great wine, delicious meals, and fine company. The author obviously knows France but she seems incapable of putting that knowledge to use, to make the characters sound French, apart from a guided tour of the streets of Aix-en-Provence. Enchanted by the deep blue of the Mediterranean, the olive trees, poppies, irises and that dazzling light, artists found their creativity flourished under the hot sun.

This one featured one of the worst fake French accents I have heard in many years, and just when my ears were beginning to adjust to the terrible pronunciations, the protagonist and his girlfriend visited some part of Italy, where the cadences were no more credible! A definite improvement over the previous one (though perhaps not such a big one as to give this book 4 stars).

Death at the Château Bremont offers charming French locales, vivid characters and an intriguing who-done-it.

A page-turning mysterythat transports you to the south of France with its lush portrait of a charming historic town, this continuation of theProven al Mystery series captivates. We know their background—well, for most of them—their lives, their relationships and personal passions; Bruno’s love of opera and Verlaque’s cigars. Another egregious plot device which made me want to throw the book across the room was that our hero, a JUDGE, deliberately breaks into premises outside his jurisdiction with his accomplice a LAW PROFESSOR, based on nothing more than a hunch and conjecture.

There are inconsistencies in the writing sometimes translating the French other times using the French word and italicising them, so why not use autoroute for example rather than highway, other times using the English word when the French would be better. But I'm so charmed by the culture of this French town and the characters who populate it, that I wouldn't care if it was a mystery, a romance, or a 700-page diary entry on what these people ate and drank all day. De ondervraagden hebben allemaal hun eigen verhaal, laten niet direct het achterste van hun tong zien en het verdachtenlijstje wordt niet vlot ingekort, er worden eerder mensen aan toegevoegd.
