Description

Batteries containing pollutants can be identified by the symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin and the chemical symbol (Cd = cadmium; Hg = mercury; Pb = lead) of the metal essential for classification. If your XLR-1/4" input source is so loud that you need even less gain than the preamps provide at the "0" setting, use the menu system to activate the -20 dB pad (selectable per input). Recordings are made to microSD/SDHC card as either linear PCM WAV files for higher resolution, or in MP3 format to maximise recording times. I prefer the quality of the Zoom H5 preamps over any USB interface I tested up to this point, but that is because I also find it more handy, as usually I’m not filming with my computer turned on, and I want to avoid using something like an iPurifier or iDefender from iFi too, as it would complicate my setup if recording.

You can configure H2n in either XY or MS mode, but it still can’t compete with the quality of H5, regardless how you configure it. Even when they are both placed ideally, the sound of H2n is very flat, has a ton more hiss, and generally lacks detail and dynamics compared to H5. You can even use your H5 as an audio interface, complete with a Loop Back function that makes it easy to add narration to music playback. The pick up is better than my NTG2 shotgun mic and that NTG is also improved when plugged into the H5. Zoom's preamps seem to be all slightly noisy on their own, Not that much to say "this mic is scam", but you know, high enough to say "ok, I know you're there, I'll just fix you if needed".

When doing my tests, I acquired an Audient EVO 4 interface, which I am actually using as a soundcard, but the recording input of it is extremely noisy and distorts easily, regardless of the settings I apply. The Zoom H5’s XLR/TRS combo inputs handle both mic and line-level signals for microphones, wireless receivers, mixers, keyboards and more.Main FeaturesFive built-in mic capsules provide Mid-Side (MS) stereo, 90 deg X/Y stereo, 2-channel and 4-channel recording modesRecords in WAV up to 24-bit/96kHz and MP3 up to 320kbpsNewly designed. Recordings are made to SD or SDHC cards as either linear PCM WAV files at up to 24-bit, 96kHz or in MP3 format to maximise recording times. I would say that F6 is a much better source, with better clarity, but if you don’t have the budget for F6, then H5 will do the job really well. Even the Panasonic GH5 is worlds below the performance of Zoom H5 when it comes to anything audio, so you can vastly improve the quality of your video if using something like Zoom H5.
