Everyone believes that Salil Singh killed his girlfriend, Andrea Bell, five years ago—except Pippa Fitz-Amobi.

After an elite criminal profiling unit is shut down amid a storm of scandal and mismanagement, only one person emerges unscathed. As the Russian army repels German forces from Stalingrad, Maggie Hope takes a much-needed break from spying to defuse bombs in London. She’d only been half listening, distracted by the way the rplacement coach had stared at her, uncertain, when she’d pointed out which of the nine-year-olds was hers and said: “I’m Josh’s sister. Show me how to enable it A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson, read by Bailey Carr, Marisa Calin, Michael Crouch, Gopal Divan, Robert Fass, Kevin R.Seventeen year old Pip turns detective when she chooses to investigate a local cold case for her final project for school. Victor was her dad, who’d raised her since she was four years old, and Josh was her annoying little brother. She graduated from the University of Nottingham, where she studied literary linguistics and creative writing, with a master's degree in English. Their home was like the town's own haunted house; people's footsteps quickened as they walked by, and their words strangled and died in their throats.

With his help, Pip digs deeper, unveiling unsavory facts about Andie and the real reason Sal's friends couldn't provide him with an alibi. But, that frustration is in keeping with the character, it’s from a sense that she’s built believably and centred in a believable world. I had an inkling that would be the case because I read and enjoyed Five Survive by the same author last year. It’s obvious that it is set up to eventually be a romantic relationship, but I like many, many YA novels, the romance is an afterthought.

Having grown up in the small town that was consumed by the crime, Pippa Fitz-Adeleke chooses the case as the topic for her final project. But I'm hoping my findings might lead to reasonable doubt about Sal's guilt, and suggest that the police were mistaken in closing the case without digging further. The original investigation concluded with most of the evidence pointing to Sal, who was found dead in the woods, apparently by suicide. When Harriet Vane attends her Oxford reunion, known as the 'Gaudy', the prim academic setting is haunted by a rash of bizarre pranks: scrawled obscenities, burnt effigies and poison-pen letters - including one that says, 'Ask your boyfriend with the title if he likes arsenic in his soup.
